Solstice sauna | North Hatley

Social sauna, sauna for all! Enjoy the warmth of the sauna, then immerse yourself in the cold but invigorating waters of Lake Massawippi. We’re located at North Hatley’s Quai Fédéral, in the heart of the village, near Parc Lôbadanaki.

Changing rooms, restrooms, picnic tables and other facilities are available on site.

Public sauna session

75-minute session with capacity for 18 people in 3 different saunas. Open to all. Several sessions offered each week. Thursday to Sunday. On weekends and during the day.

Capacity: 12-20 places. Available on request, every day. We currently have 3 saunas in operation.

What are the benefits of sauna and cold water bathing?

Excellent against stress!

The heat of the sauna helps us to relax
and regulate cortisol levels in our blood. Cortisol is the hormone that is released when we are stressed, and too high levels of cortisol can lead to a number of health problems such as immune system and sleep problems. The sauna reduces the level of cortisol in the blood and stimulates the production of serotonin.
Serotonin is our “happy hormone” that makes us feel good.

Improve brain health

A 25-year study of more than 2,300 participants at the University of Eastern Finland by Dr. Jari Laukkanen and colleagues found that regular use of a sauna (4 to 7 times per week) at 176 degrees F for 19 minutes reduced the risk of Alzheimer’s disease and dementia. The Alzheimer’s Association sees sweating as an important way to improve brain health.

Promote
social interaction

While the social benefit is rarely mentioned, it is in fact very important. The sauna can be a private and personal space of relaxation and solitude. However, it can just as easily be a relaxing environment for socializing with family, friends and future friends. The sauna room environment is conducive to open, intimate and quiet conversation.
