What are the benefits of sauna and cold water bathing?
Excellent against stress!
The heat of the sauna helps us to relax
and to regulate the level of cortisol in our blood. Cortisol is the hormone that is released when we are stressed, and too high levels of cortisol can lead to a number of health problems such as immune system and sleep problems. The sauna reduces the level of cortisol in the blood and stimulates the production of serotonin.
Serotonin is our “happy hormone” that makes us feel good.
Improve brain health
A 25-year study of more than 2,300 participants at the University of Eastern Finland by Dr. Jari Laukkanen and colleagues found that regular use of a sauna (4 to 7 times per week) at 176 degrees F for 19 minutes reduced the risk of Alzheimer’s disease and dementia. The Alzheimer’s Association sees sweating as an important way to improve brain health.
